Fiji’s trade rose to $64,801,332 through March

Fiji’s trade with the United States rose to $64,801,332 through the first three months of 2013, according to a WorldCity analysis of latest U.S. Census Bureau data. That’s 34.57 percent above its total trade during the same time period last year. Fiji’s exports increased 96.97 percent while imports rose 21.31 percent. The U.S. deficit with Fiji was $0.

Through March, Fiji’s top U.S. Customs districts for total imports and exports were No. 1 Los Angeles, No. 2 Philadelphia, No. 3 Atlanta/Savannah, No. 4 Low Value Shipments and No. 5 San Francisco compared to last year when the top spots were held by No. 1 Los Angeles, No. 2 San Juan, No. 3 Atlanta/Savannah, No. 4 Philadelphia and No. 5 San Francisco. In the current time period, the top five accounted for 14.35 percent of Fiji’s U.S. trade.. That compares to -15.02 percent for the nation’s top five Customs districts during the same time period.

Taking a closer look at the leading U.S. gateways for U.S. trade with Fiji,:

  • Trade with No. 1 Los Angeles rose 38.59 percent to $39,073,470.
    Exports rose 73.28 percent to $7,957,294. Imports rose 31.84 percent to $31,116,176.
  • Trade with No. 2 Philadelphia rose 56.68 percent to $5,869,194.
    Exports rose to $28,766. Imports rose 55.92 percent to $5,840,428.
  • Trade with No. 3 Atlanta/savannah rose 22.09 percent to $4,895,337.

  • Trade with No. 4 Low Value Shipments rose 91.96 percent to $3,583,460.
    Exports rose 99.03 percent to $2,995,006. Imports rose 62.55 percent to $588,454.
  • Trade with No. 5 San Francisco rose 13.15 percent to $3,247,781.
    Exports rose 64.53 percent to $1,054,038. Imports fell -1.61 percent to $2,193,743.

Through March, 9 Customs districts posted trade surpluses with Fiji while 14 had deficits. That compares with 11 surpluses and 12 deficits for the same period one year ago. The top surplus was with Low Value Shipments at $2,406,552, the largest deficit was with Los Angeles at $-23,158,882.

Meanwhile, total U.S. trade with the world decreased to $919,560,909,009, down -1.59 percent compared to the same period last year. The nation’s exports climbed 0.19 percent to $1,773,047,307; imports dropped -1.78 percent to $-16,591,316,281. The nation’s top five countries so far this year, by value, are Canada, China, Mexico, Japan and Germany. The overall trade deficit climbed $-152,899,878,555, down compared to the same period of last year when the deficit was $-171,264,242,143.

The top five U.S. exports to Fiji by value through March were aircraft; low value shipments; flour, meal of oil seed, olea fruit; exports of charitable items, returned as imports; and yachts and other boats, respectively. They accounted for 55.51 percent of total exports to Fiji.

The value of the top five U.S. imports from Fiji -- caviar, caviar substitutes, other prepared fish; natural waters; wood, sawed or chipped, greater than 6 meters thic; molasses from sugar; and fish, fresh or chilled -- accounted for 87.53 percent of all inbound shipments.
