Kuwait’s trade rose to $3,659,521,535 through March

Kuwait’s trade with the United States rose to $3,659,521,535 through the first three months of 2013, according to a WorldCity analysis of latest U.S. Census Bureau data. That’s -7.48 percent below its total trade during the same time period last year. Kuwait’s exports decreased -0.97 percent while imports dropped -8.75 percent. The U.S. deficit with Kuwait was $0.

Through March, Kuwait’s top U.S. Customs districts for total imports and exports were No. 1 New Orleans, No. 2 Houston, No. 3 Port Arthur, Texas, No. 4 Jacksonville/Tampa and No. 5 New York City compared to last year when the top spots were held by No. 1 New Orleans, No. 2 Houston, No. 3 New York City, No. 4 Jacksonville/Tampa and No. 5 Mobile. In the current time period, the top five accounted for 13.12 percent of Kuwait’s U.S. trade.. That compares to 22.27 percent for the nation’s top five Customs districts during the same time period.

Taking a closer look at the leading U.S. gateways for U.S. trade with Kuwait,:

  • Trade with No. 1 New Orleans fell -4.12 percent to $1,801,373,923.
    Exports rose 36.62 percent to $19,808,899. Imports fell -4.44 percent to $1,781,565,024.
  • Trade with No. 2 Houston fell -30.48 percent to $900,106,234.
    Exports fell -35.87 percent to $69,511,326. Imports fell -29.99 percent to $830,594,908.
  • Trade with No. 3 Port Arthur, Texas rose 339.57 percent to $296,717,047.
    Exports fell -44.53 percent to $57,900. Imports rose 340.16 percent to $296,659,147.
  • Trade with No. 4 Jacksonville/tampa rose 16.06 percent to $127,405,877.
    Exports rose 15.79 percent to $126,081,386. Imports rose 49.63 percent to $1,324,491.
  • Trade with No. 5 New York City fell -4.71 percent to $109,355,956.
    Exports fell -5.88 percent to $107,561,122. Imports rose 277.12 percent to $1,794,834.

Through March, 28 Customs districts posted trade surpluses with Kuwait while 5 had deficits. That compares with 25 surpluses and 10 deficits for the same period one year ago. The top surplus was with Jacksonville/Tampa at $124,756,895, the largest deficit was with New Orleans at $-1,761,756,125.

Meanwhile, total U.S. trade with the world decreased to $919,560,909,009, down -1.59 percent compared to the same period last year. The nation’s exports climbed 0.19 percent to $1,773,047,307; imports dropped -1.78 percent to $-16,591,316,281. The nation’s top five countries so far this year, by value, are Canada, China, Mexico, Japan and Germany. The overall trade deficit climbed $-152,899,878,555, down compared to the same period of last year when the deficit was $-171,264,242,143.

The top five U.S. exports to Kuwait by value through March were motor vehicles for transporting people; misc. vessels, including warships, lifeboats; motor vehicles for transporting goods; misc. vegetable fats, oils; and aluminum plates, sheets, strip more than 0.2mm thi, respectively. They accounted for 46.18 percent of total exports to Kuwait.

The value of the top five U.S. imports from Kuwait -- oil; nitrogenous fertilizers; cyclic hydrocarbons; petroleum products; and oil, not crude -- accounted for 99.74 percent of all inbound shipments.
