From bed sheets and carpets to airplane parts and computers, Georgia’s trade with India spanned a broad range of products.
From flat iron and steel to latex condoms, Georgia’s imports from India were among the most diverse of the state’s trade partners.
Imports of linens led the roster, totaling more than $47 million in 2005. Household linens, including sheets and tablecloths, registered stunning growth of 148 percent compared with 2004.
| Rank | Top Georgia Imports from India | Value | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total all commodities | $442,270,834.00 | 15.60% | |
| 1 | Linens for bed, bath and kitchen | $47,197,666.00 | 148.40% |
| 2 | Flat rolled iron & steel under 600 mm wide | $31,472,906.00 | -34.50% |

| 5 | Natural rubber latex condoms | $14,283,064.00 | 55.10% |
Linens were followed by more than $31 million in iron and steel shipments in a year that saw $442 million in total imports – a jump of nearly 16 percent – and overall trade between the state and India of nearly $685.7 million.
Georgia also imported $20 million in Indian carpets and nearly $18 million in women’s and girls’ suits. Condom imports from India, meanwhile, rose 55 percent to close the year at more than $14 million. India has a flourishing condom-manufacturing and export industry.
Just as imports were up, so were Georgia’s exports to India. They rose 6.5 percent to close the year worth more than $243 million.
Those exports included more than $32 million in electric equipment for line telephony and more than $16 million in computers. Both export categories posted losses when compared with their performance in 2004.

But parts for regional jets jumped dramatically, rising more than 187 percent to total nearly $11.6 million for the year.
Wood pulp is one of Georgia’s top products, and pulp from recycled paper was on the export list for India. The value of that cargo fell nearly 3 percent to total $8.8 million.
