Jets and aircraft parts helped shape Georgia’s trade with Israel.
Georgia is working – successfully – to boost trade and investment with Israel.
The bilateral trade rose 11 percent to nearly $572 million in 2005, largely as a result of a 19 percent jump in Georgia’s imports from Israel, which topped $337 million.
| Rank | Top Georgia Imports from Israel | Value | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total all commodities | $337,330,317.00 | 18.50% | |
| 1 | Medical instruments for surgeons, dentists, vets | $59,715,073.00 | 8.60% |
| 2 | Heterocyclic chemical compounds | $19,839,933.00 | 0.70% |
| 3 | Prefabricated buildings | $19,632,824.00 | 43.10% |
| 4 | Misc. plastic articles | $15,368,251.00 | 2.50% |
| 5 | Aircraft parts | $13,621,437.00 | 962.20% |
Georgia is betting that last year’s trade mission by Gov. Sonny Perdue will boost the commercial exchange even more this year and next. Atlanta-based software company Click Fox is already opening an R&D facility in Kfar Saba. And Israel’s Veritas Venture Partners, with an office in Alpharetta, said it is investing in Asankya, a Georgia Tech startup firm.
Israel technology firms dbMotion and Resolute Networks use Georgia for their U.S. headquarters. In total, more than 40 Israeli companies have opened U.S. or regional offices in the state.
The aviation industry played a key role in Georgia-Israel trade. Although aircraft parts were only the fifth most important import from Israel, they gained the most, climbing to $13.6 million. That’s an increase of more than 962 percent when compared with 2004.
Aircraft parts, as well as jets, also appeared on Georgia’s export roster. Aircraft exports reached nearly $42 million, making them the top commodity that Georgia shipped to Israel. Regional jet part exports, meanwhile, neared $18 million. That was a 70.5 percent drop from 2004. Exports of other aircraft parts added nearly $7 million to the trade total.
| Rank | Top Georgia exports to Israel | Value | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total all commodities | $234,264,151.00 | 1.80% | |
| 1 | Aircraft | $41,692,853.00 | #DIV/0! |

| 4 | Cigars, cigarettes | $18,429,647.00 | -52.80% |
| 5 | Regional jet parts | $17,927,970.00 | -70.50% |
While Georgia’s imports from Israel posted double-digit gains, its exports rose less than 2 percent, ending the year at $234 million.
