Gov. Rick Scott is slated to lead a Florida business mission to the Dominican Republic in February, the state’s economic development group Enterprise Florida announced.

The trip is scheduled for Feb. 23-24 in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Caribbean nation of 10 million residents.

The Dominican Republic is the second largest economy in the Caribbean. It ranks as Florida’s ninth largest merchandise trading partner, with $5.5 billion in trade last year.

A major tourism destination, the Dominican Republic buys a wide variety of goods from Florida, from hotel supplies to cellphones, auto parts, construction materials and computers. It also purchases ample services from hotel design to health insurance.

Florida companies taking part in the trip can sign up for pre-arranged matchmaking with potential Dominican buyers.
