Software giant Microsoft has named Enrique Martin as senior director for human resources for Latin America, based in Fort Lauderdale.

He had been Cisco Systems’ human resources manager for the Latin America and Caribbean region and worked nine years for Cisco. He also had worked at Nokia in human resources for Latin America.

Martin, 46. holds a bachelors degree in physics from the University of Buenos Aires and an MBA from the University of CEMA in his native Argentina. He also is U.S. certified executive coach.

In January, Martin led talks at WorldCity’s HR Connections on how technology is transforming the way we approach work and how today’s youth will need different incentives to be motivated on the job in the years to come. He said "Digital Natives," born after 1995 and defined by global awareness and social responsibility, may be more enticed by a company offering a leave of absence to help on social projects in India than one with tranditional compensation.

A marathon runner, Martin takes the long view of technology and talent. As innovation speeds up, he sees employees increasingly distinguished by their age and comfort level with new technologies, rather than their country of origin -- "more about generations than geographies," he said.

Microsoft is expanding staff in Latin America and at its Latin American headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, as sales surge across the region.
