With new food safety rules in the United States, international trade law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg P.A. is expanding its roster of specialists in food regulations. 

The Miami-based firm said James “‘Jim” T. O'Reilly joined its team as Of Counsel. O’Reilly will concentrate his practice in the area of life sciences, including biotechnology, Food and Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Administration regulatory matters. He will assist clients with compliance, product recalls, product approval, liability risk, inspections and related issues, Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg said in a statement. 

O'Reilly served as the principal regulatory counsel for The Procter & Gamble Co. from 1974 to 1998. Since 1980 and full-time since 1998, he has also been a professor with the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He is the author of Food and Drug Administration, a comprehensive guide to food and drug law first published in 1979, and quoted by the U.S. Supreme Court. 

O'Reilly holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. from Boston College. He is a member of the bar in Ohio and Virginia and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, three U.S. courts of appeal, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.  He chairs the American Bar Association’s Committee on Government Information and Privacy and co-chairs its FDA Committee. He is a former Section Chair of the ABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice.
