Wendy’s International is moving its Latin America and South Florida headquarters to Sunrise in Broward County from Doral in Miami-Dade County.
The fast-food company will occupy 11,000 square feet, or about two floors, in the Indian Trace Commons building at 1398 S.W. 160th Ave, said Ross Realty Investments in a statement.
Helping coordinate the move were economic development groups from the city and county. They emphasized that Broward County already is home to more than 150 global and regional headquarter operations, including Microsoft Latin America.
Broward leader Ray Ferrero Jr., who chairs the CEO Council at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and leads Nova Southeastern University, called the decision especially gratifying.
“It’s made even more special based on our close friendship with Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas and his wife, Lorraine, as longtime Fort Lauderdale residents and wonderfully generous supporters of our area through the Enterprise Ambassador Program at Nova Southeastern University and the Dave Thomas Education Center in Coconut Creek,” Ferrero said in a statement.
Atlanta-based Wendy’s, known for hamburgers, this month completed the sale of its Arby’s restaurant unit, known for roast beef sandwiches, in a deal estimated at $430 million. It retains an 18.5 percent interest in common stock in Arby’s, now owned by buyers led by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group.
Wendy’s CEO Roland Smith said the company now will focus on growth opportunities, “ which include revitalizing the core menu, expanding into new dayparts including breakfast, modernizing our facilities, building new restaurants in the United States and pursuing global expansion.”
The restaurant company entered the Russian Federation in June with its first Moscow store. Its Russian Federation franchisee plans 180 restaurants in the country in 10 years, a statement said.
Wendy’s International is the franchisor unit of Wendy’s restaurant system. Worldwide, Wendy’s system includes more than 6,500 franchise- or company-owned restaurants in the United States and U.S. territories and in 25 more countries.
Wendy’s revenue, excluding Arby’s, was $582.5 million in the first quarter, the company reported.
