The Miami chapter of the World Trade Center organization honored five women at their annual International Women’s Day awards that recognize contributions to enhance international business in South Florida.
The 2011 honorees are:
- Doreen Hemlock, SunSentinel reporter and contributor to WorldCity and other publications.
- Carmenza Jaramillo, Colombia’s director of Proexport USA and former president of the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce.
- Ambassador Louise Leger, Canada’s consul general in Miami and former ambassador in Panama and in Costa Rica.
- Carmen Taylor, American Airlines’ Cargo managing director for Latin America and former American Airlines country director for Spain.
- Liane Guerra Ventura, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s senior vice president for international business development and leadership programs.
The World Trade Center-Miami presented the 2011 awards at a lunch March 4 attended by Gov. Rick Scott, who plans to visit Panama and Brazil this year on Florida trade missions.
At the lunch, Scott said he backs pending legislation in Congress for U.S. free trade agreements with Panama and Colombia. He also said he’ll mobilize $77 million in state funds to complete funding to dredge the Port of Miami to accommodate the larger boats that will soon be able to pass through an expanded Panama Canal.
