E-Commerce: Latin America’s Winners and Losers

  • July 26, 2019
    8:00 am - 9:30 am

Latin America is one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for e-commerce. That presents enormous opportunities and challenges for South Florida as well as for Miami International Airport, which has created a task force aimed at securing its place in the center of that supply chain; for logistics companies hoping to connect China and Asia with the region; and for the millions of people of the Caribbean, Central and South America eager to shop online. Join us, Friday, July 26, 2019, at WorldCity’s next Global Connections event, E-Commerce: Latin America’s Winners and Losers, and network with some of the biggest multinational companies located in the Greater Miami area.

Emir Pineda, the Manager of Aviation, Trade and Logistics and head of the e-commerce task force at Miami International Airport, will discuss MIA’s desire to become the e-commerce hub of the Americas by “going vertical” with on-site warehousing, growing its innovative pre-clearance program with Brazil, and using tracking software to ease congestion.

Lindsay Lehr, the Associate Managing Director, Payments Practice Leader at Americas Market Intelligence, will talk about how Spotify, AirBnB, Netflix and others will navigate in a region eager for new tax revenues as well as how their customers will deal credit card access, returns and currency fluctuations.

Jaime Basagoitia, the Vice President and General Manager for Trans-Express, will discuss the company’s experience working with Amazon, Alibaba, Wal-Mart, Target and more than 200,000 other shippers sending e-commerce packages to the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
