A Peruvian fruit and vegetable company has set up its first U.S. office in Broward County’s Pompano Beach.
Camposol Holdings, based in Lima and established in 1997, bills itself as the largest exporter of asparagus in the world. It owns the fields where its produce is planted and harvested and also, exports peppers, avocados, mangoes, artichokes, tangerines, and grapes, among other items, a statement said.
The company now sells mainly to Florida and California and wants to expand its sales in the North American market, said Jose Antonio Gomez, the company’s chief commercial officer.
Camposol said it worked with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. Broward County’s economic development group, to set up the new Camposol Fresh USA office. It is led by general manager Javier Gutierrez, now employs six people and should expand to 10 employees in the next year, Gomez said.
Camposol Fresh USA opened at 555 SW 12th Ave. in Pompano Beach. It uses the services of Chiquita in the Port Everglades distribution center for cold storage and ripening services, the statement said.
The company invested about $650,000 in starting the operation, the statement said.
